About HemaMax™
The therapeutic under development by Neumedicines Inc., HemaMax™, is based on rHuIL-12 (Recombinant Human Interleukin – 12). Scientists from Neumedicines Inc. discovered the previously unknown hematological properties of IL-12 by demonstrating the potent survival effects of single, low dose IL-12 on hematopoietic recovery following lethal radiation.
IL-12, which is the exclusive subject of our research and development efforts, has been successfully demonstrated to be safe to both animals and humans through previous research efforts.
However, the focus of previous research and development efforts did not involve therapeutics related to hematopoiesis, or radiation exposure, and were instead focused on the role of IL-12 as a single agent immunotherapy.
Neumedicines has demonstrated that IL-12 can rescue mice from otherwise lethal doses of radiation utilizing low doses administered post irradiation at time points of 3 hours (60% survival at 9Gy), 6 hours (100% survival at 8Gy) and 24 hours (90% survival at 8Gy).

Neumedicines believes that the protective benefits conferred by IL-12 may prove efficacy in humans at time points that correspond to 24 hours, and perhaps, even up to several days post irradiation administration based on the correlation between murine and human metabolic rates.
Neumedicines believes at the present time that the administration of IL-12 post radiation exposure, including time points of 24 hours or longer, will prove to provide significant protective functions for the human hematopoietic system by not only mitigating the bone marrow damage caused by acute ionizing radiation, but also as a therapeutic that is capable of complete regeneration of multilineage hematopoiesis following lethal radiation exposure.
